What does it mean to fund a trust?
When you fund your trust, all you’re doing is transferring title to the assets individually to you or someone else as trustee. Going into your bank and explaining to them that you have a trust, you physically fund that trust by retitling your bank account in the name of yourself as trustee. Funding a trust can be executing a new warranty deed and transferring title to your real estate to the name of your trust. You can also change your beneficiary designations for a life insurance policy or an IRA. That’s essentially funding your trust. It’s really transferring title of the name of assets owned individually to the name of the trust or you as trustee.
